The Health Resources and Services Administration today awarded $6 million to help repay student loans for 104 clinicians committed to serving three years in high-need communities affected by the Zika virus in Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, the University of Miami and Indiana University also received $333,333 each to provide training, clinical consultation and telemedicine to health professionals treating children exposed prenatally to the virus in these territories. “We hope today’s awards ultimately empower communities by supporting optimal health and development and improving access to appropriate clinical care for children affected by Zika,” said Michael Lu, M.D., HRSA associate administrator for maternal and child health.
