Average annual premiums for employer-sponsored private health insurance rose 3.5% for individuals and 3.6% for families in 2013, according to a series of new statistical briefs from the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ). Average annual premiums rose by $187 for single coverage, to $5,571, and by $556 for family coverage, to $16,029.
The findings are based on data from AHRQ’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, an annual survey that measures how Americans pay for and use medical care and health insurance.
