CMS announces final Health Care Innovation Awards

AHA News

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) last week awarded the second and final batch of Health Care Innovation Awards to 81 projects that will test promising new payment and care delivery models for Medicare, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Funded by the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” the $1 billion initiative was announced last November. Combined with 26 awards announced last month, CMS expects the recipients to save the health care system an estimated $1.9 billion over the next three years. The projects include collaborations of hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, community-based organizations and others, who will evaluate and monitor quality improvements and savings.
