To date only 30 eligible hospitals have attested to meaningful use of electronic health records for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs for fiscal year 2014, only four of which met Stage 2 meaningful use requirements, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services told the Health Information Technology Policy Committee today. All eligible hospitals must attest to meaningful use of EHRs for FY 2014 or face significant future financial penalties in addition to losing incentive payments. AHA has urged the Department of Health and Human Services to extend the regulatory timelines for 2014 meaningful use and to allow all providers greater flexibility in meeting Stage 2 requirements.
