Growing the economy and making changes to entitlement programs are two actions the U.S. must take to address the nation’s growing budget crisis, former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels told hospital leaders this week at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C. Daniels, who became president of Purdue University last year after serving two terms as governor of Indiana, discussed the nation’s growing debt and the potential negative consequences it could have on future generations if reforms are not enacted. In addition, Daniels discussed the Healthy Indiana Plan, which he established as governor in 2007 to provide affordable health care coverage for uninsured Indiana adults.
