Measure for Measures
Nov 8, 2013
AHA PRESIDENT AND CEO The Joint Commission (TJC), the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, has just come out with its annual list of “top performers” on its accountability measures.
An impressive 1,099 hospitals were singled out for this important distinction, and almost 700 more came very close to making the list. In fact, the list has grown by 77% in just one year and represents a third of all TJC-accredited hospitals that reported accountability measure performance data for 2012.
Why so much progress? Because hospitals across the country are embracing evidencebased clinical processes that are shown to improve care for conditions such as heart attack,
pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma and more.
These are solid measures – there’s good evidence that performing to them directly improves health outcomes for patients, and we believe that public and private entities should align their measurement systems around them. Congratulations!
