More groups signing on to ‘Joining Forces’

The American Optometric Association (AOA) is the latest organization to sign on to “Joining Forces,” a national initiative to educate medical professionals about the common health challenges facing returning U.S. troops. Launched Oct. 29 by HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education and the AHA, the program features an award-winning educational video series and other resources, available online at AOA is a professional society for more than 36,000 doctors of optometry, optometric educators and optometry students. Combat eye trauma is one of the most common injuries to U.S. troops. Other new partners in the Joining Forces initiative include The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, New Jersey Hospital Association, Texas Hospital Association, Iowa Hospital Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Emergency Nurses Association, YMCA of the USA and National Council of Churches. All of the AHA's personal membership groups also are partners in the project.
