Addressing a joint session of Congress last night, President Obama said his budget proposal to Congress Thursday will address "the crushing cost of health care" by building on reforms included in the recently passed Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Obama said health reform "cannot wait, it must not wait, and it will not wait another year," adding that he plans to bring together "businesses and workers, doctors and health care providers, Democrats and Republicans" to begin work on the issue next week. AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock said, "America's hospitals agree with the President that health coverage for all is essential. If we are to get a handle on costs, we must get everyone covered. Hospitals stand ready to offer ideas and insights about how to make care work better for patients, providers and communities."
