States tomorrow can begin accessing the first two quarters of fiscal year 2009 federal Medicaid matching funds included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, President Obama announced yesterday. Signed last week, the legislation increased the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage by roughly $86.6 billion over 27 months for states that maintain their Medicaid eligibility standards. Molly Collins Offner, AHA director of policy development, said, "We applaud the president's commitment to making certain that Medicaid funds are spent on health care, and the AHA will work with its members and state and metropolitan hospital associations to hold the states accountable."
