The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute will accept applications through March 13, 2013, for up to $12 million in funding for projects that address the methodological gaps in patient-centered outcomes research. PCORI will fund up to 14 projects, and hospitals and others must submit letters of intent to apply by Jan. 15, 2013. Authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the funding supports PCORI's fifth research priority - accelerating patient-centered and methodological research. Additional funding announcements under this priority are expected in 2013. Other national research priorities include assessing prevention, diagnosis and treatment options; improving health care systems; communicating and disseminating research; and addressing disparities. Proposals must involve patients and caregivers and will be evaluated in part on their potential to help others reproduce their results.
