Much of the conversation about redefining the “H” – what it means to be a hospital – focuses on the shift in payment systems, observes AHA board member Larry Veitz. But not all hospitals are on the same learning curve and in the same position to make the transition.

“I know the AHA and the board are working very hard to develop tools for all hospitals so they can take where they’re at now in the volume-based equation and help them move in a manner that works for them to the value-based proposition,” says Veitz, CEO of Spearfish Regional Hospital in Spearfish, S.D., a position he has held since 2002.
