Report: Preterm births decline in 2011

Preterm births declined for the fifth straight year in 2011, according to the latest annual report by the federal government on the well-being of U.S. children. Births at less than 37 weeks of gestation fell to 11.7%, down from 12% in 2010 and 12.8% in 2006. The 2011 percentage of Black, non-Hispanic infants born preterm (16.8%) was the lowest reported in the three decades for which comparable data are available.
