Two new reports from the Kaiser Family Foundation examine the roles played by Medicare and Medicaid in providing care for 9 million low-income elderly and disabled people who have health coverage under both programs. One report examines variations in medical needs and Medicare spending among this dual-eligible population, and includes state-specific data on the number and proportion of Medicare beneficiaries with Medicaid coverage. The second report explains how Medicare beneficiaries become eligible for Medicaid, provides national and state-by-state data on enrollment, and examines national and state-specific data on Medicaid spending for dual eligibles by service and eligibility group.
